Child abuse services

Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital takes the role of protecting the health and well being of children very seriously by committing itself to fighting and preventing child abuse and neglect.

Dedicated clinicians provide evaluation and comprehensive treatment in the most sensitive manner to children and adolescents who may have been physically or sexually abused or neglected. As national leaders in the field of pediatric maltreatment, our expert team advocates locally and nationally with our community partners for the prevention of child abuse and neglect.

Our services include:

  • Inpatient consultation
  • Telephone consultation for area medical providers
  • Case assessment for children under investigation by the Department of Children and Families
  • Child sexual abuse evaluation

A child life specialist trained in child development provides age-appropriate preparation for the forensic interview and medical examination in suspected cases of sexual abuse. The child life specialist may also provide direct support of children during the physical examination.
