Picnic in the Park provides food, fun and introductions (with photo gallery)

At the beginning of every fiscal year, the System Business Office (SBO), Patient Financial and Admitting Services (PFAS) and Health Information Management (HIM) hold a picnic to celebrate the accomplishments of the past year.

On a recent warm, summer-like day complete with bees, the three departments held their annual Picnic in the Park in Amistad Park — located up the block from Finance South. This year, shuttles played a key role transporting employees from the Chapel Street Campus to the picnic.

Gloria Ivory, HIM coder, on the Chapel Street Campus, said, "A picnic is such a good way to meet people. I had a great time and just wish I could remember more names of the people I met!"

"This picnic was great because it provided an opportunity to meet our colleagues on Chapel Street," said Mary Bailey, account resolution specialist, SBO. "It was a great way for them to get to know us and see how our hard work is recognized and appreciated."

Bailey, a 33-year veteran of YNHHS, had also worked as a registrar in the Emergency Department in the Hospital of Saint Raphael for almost three years. At the picnic, she was busy introducing colleagues on both campuses to each other.

"This hospital is a great place to work and at the picnic, we were able to welcome new employees to the Yale- New Haven family," said Bailey. David Wurcel, vice president, Corporate Business Services, did not stop moving during the three-hour picnic, making sure employees felt welcome and were enjoying the food.

"Our staff work very hard throughout the year and this picnic recognizes their contributions to the success of the organization," said Wurcel. "This year was special because it came so soon after we integrated with the Hospital of Saint Raphael. The picnic was a wonderful way to welcome our new employees and introduce ourselves.

From day one, we want our Chapel Street colleagues to feel that they are valuable members of our team."
