Making "A Positive Difference" with employees' help

Last year, Yale-New Haven Hospital announced a new giving campaign called A Positive Difference for employees who wanted a convenient way to support the hospital's mission and goals.

This year's campaign offers five different funds that employees can choose to support through payroll deduction or one-time check or credit card donation.

"Yale-New Haven Hospital employees have a strong spirit and legacy of philanthropy so A Positive Difference was designed to make it easy for them to include YNHH in their giving," said Jeannette Young, director of communications, Office of Development. "Hundreds of employees gave in the first year, pledging nearly $80,000. Employee generosity is truly remarkable."

This year, A Positive Difference has added a new fund that employees can choose for their donations. It is the YNHH Saint Raphael Campus Fund, a general fund for activities specifically on that campus.

The other four funds are: The Fund for Yale-New Haven which supports all areas of the hospital; The Fund for Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital which supports YNHCH only; The Closer to Free Fund/Smilow Cancer Hospital which supports Smilow; and The Yale-New Haven Hospital Employee Hardship Fund.

"General funds like the ones offered in A Positive Difference give the hospital flexibility in meeting the needs of patients and staff," explained Young. "Employees enroll in A Positive Difference through Employee Self Service which is convenient and streamlined for them — it is designed to give employees flexibility in their giving."

Gina Morrow, RPh, PharmD, clinical pharmacy specialist, Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital, likes A Positive Difference because it allows her to give a small amount, but on a regular basis.

"We are a non-profit so there are always things we need for our patients," said Morrow. "It's a great feeling to donate to an organization that is as worthwhile as ours. Giving lets you renew your commitment to what we do as a hospital."

Employees who enroll in A Positive Difference by Monday, September 30 will be included in a drawing to win one of three iPads. Additional information is available on the "Positive Difference" tab on Employee Self Service, at www.ynhh.org/positivedifference or employees may call the Office of Development at 688-9644.
