Biography

Meir Kryger, MD, a world-renowned expert and pioneer in sleep disorders, has cared for more than 30,000 patients in his career with complaints ranging from sleep apnea to narcolepsy.

In addition to treating patients, Dr. Kryger is a researcher who has made important impacts on clinical practice. He was the first to diagnose and report obstructive sleep apnea in North America and conducted the first research to show the feasibility of using noninvasive techniques to ventilate post-polio patients in their homes. He reported the first use of computers in analyzing sleep-breathing patterns. Dr. Kryger is the author and editor of several important books, including, The Principles and Practice of Sleep Medicine, the first comprehensive textbook on the topic, which is still the most widely used volume on the subject today.

A professor of medicine (pulmonary) at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Kryger has been president of both the Canadian Sleep Society and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and is on the Board of Directors of the National Sleep Foundation.
