Stephanie Eisenbarth, MD

Specialty

Laboratory Medicine

Biography

As a physician-scientist who specializes in allergies and autoimmune diseases, Stephanie Eisenbarth, MD, PhD, helps other physicians understand lab tests results related to those areas. “I get to go back and forth between clinical and research questions—and I really enjoy that aspect,” says Dr. Eisenbarth, who first became interested in medicine through her father, a physician, who researched diabetes.

“Right now, my focus is food allergies,” she says. “Food allergies have been described as an epidemic and we don’t have a solid understanding of why some kids are sensitive to foods and some are not.”

In her role as a research scientist, Dr. Eisenbarth investigates the very basic underpinnings of allergens related to food. “I love discovering new pathways that could be potentially used to treat diseases,” Dr. Eisenbarth says.

Dr. Eisenbarth is an associate professor of laboratory medicine, of immunobiology, and of medicine at the Yale School of Medicine.
