Dementia Caregiving: An Emotional Journey

The emotional roller coaster begins for many dementia caregivers even before they realize they are caring for someone who has dementia. Join Donna Fedus, MA, gerontologist and founder of Borrow My Glasses, as she explores this emotional voyage through dementia caregiving from multiple perspectives, reflecting on how emotion impacts action at various stages.

Take steps toward healthier feet on Nov. 19

About 75 percent of people in the United States have foot pain at some time. Steven Vyce, DPM, chief of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, and Bruce Jacobsen, physical therapist, will discuss common foot conditions, causes, basic foot care and choosing appropriate foot wear.

New developments in treating depression, Nov. 12

New Developments in the Treatment of Depression, sponsored by the Yale New Haven Hospital Auxiliary, will be held at 6:30 pm Thursday, Nov. 12, at 55 Park Street Auditorium, New Haven.

Gerard Sanacora, MD, PhD, director of the Yale Depression Research Program, will discuss evolving concepts in the causes and diagnosis of depression and recent advances in antidepressant medications.

Q&A about managing pain and rehabilitation on Nov. 20

Marc L. Rosen, MD, attending physiatrist, YNHH Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, and Amie Stevens, PT, director of Rehabilitation, YNHH Grimes Center, will speak about non-surgical alternatives for bone and joint ailments to help patients reduce or eliminate pain, regain function, stay active and improve quality of life.
They will discuss developing a rehabilitation plan, pain management, safety during rehabilitation, arthritis treatments, surgical Interventions, adaptive equipment and physical medicine.

YNHH Auxiliary hosts tree lightings on Dec. 2

The Yale New Haven Hospital Auxiliary invites everyone to attend the annual holiday tree Lightings on Wednesday, Dec. 2, when a Yale New Haven Children's Hospital patient will light the trees to kick off the holiday season.

  • York Street campus: Hunter Courtyard at the corner of York and Cedar Streets, 4 - 4:30 pm.

2016 Wish Book focuses on pediatric patients

Yale New Haven's Wish Book is a gift list focusing on the needs of our youngest patients — those being treated at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital. Many of the gifts in the Wish Book are items that some families are unable to purchase themselves and others items include equipment that may be in short supply. Suggested gifts also include equipment such as car seats, rocking chairs and breast pumps.
