PIP third-quarter results show struggles in some areas

Results of the Performance Incentive Plan (PIP) through the fiscal year 2015 third quarter, which ended June 30, show that while there has been progress in a few areas, the struggle to meet goals continues in other categories. If PIP were paid today, eligible employees would receive a payout of up to 1.77 percent of salary.

Performance Incentive Plan (PIP) results through the second quarter of fiscal year 2015, which ended March 31, show progress in some areas, but also a need for improvement in others to meet goals as the hospital moves toward the end of the year. If PIP were paid today, eligible employees would receive up to 1.51 percent of salary.

Yale-New Haven Hospital is launching six "innovation units" that will not only target care and treatment for their specific patient populations, but will work to improve patients' overall quality outcomes before, during and after their hospital stays.

It's time to Know Your Numbers - plus earn up to $500!

In 2013, YNHHS introduced the Know Your Numbers employee wellness program to help employees heighten their health awareness and earn credit toward the cost of their medical benefits. This year's program has exciting new elements and continues to offer a reward of up to $500 credit toward the cost of participating employees' 2016 YNHHS medical premium. Employees enrolled in a YNHHS medical plan and those eligible to enroll for benefits may participate.

Praise, gratitude extended to YNHHS QCC inductees

What were you doing in 1989? Forty Yale New Haven Health System employees were just beginning their careers at Bridgeport, Greenwich or Yale-New Haven hospitals. The system honored these individuals for 25 years of service with their induction into the Quarter Century Club March 11, during a luncheon at the Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale. More than 325 people, including members of management and former inductees, also attended.

Team works to make patient identification errors "never events"

When it comes to patient identification errors, a few feet can make a big difference.

That's why the emergency departments are using Soft ID, technology that allows staff to print labels and label specimens right at a patient's bedside, instead of at the nurses' station.

The devices were piloted in the Saint Raphael Campus ED and have been successfully implemented in the York Street adult and pediatric EDs and at Shoreline Medical Center. They will soon be rolled out to other units as part of hospital-wide efforts to improve patient identification and reduce errors that might lead to harm.

Nursing launches video series featuring CNO

In response to nurses' requests on last year's Employee Engagement Survey for more communication, nursing has launched a new video series, "Conversations with Sue Fitzsimons." Available on the nursing website, the videos will feature Fitzsimons, RN, PhD, senior vice president, Patient Services, and chief nursing officer, and other nursing leaders. The series will feature updates on nursing activities, including shared governance, Magnet re-designation efforts, the Nursing Strategic Business Plan and other topics designed to keep nurses informed and help them enhance their practice. Nursing has also launched a special email address where nurses can ask questions and share ideas about improving nursing at YNHH.
