Danny Oliver, CT technician, Diagnostic Radiology, was recognized for actions of genuine care and concern and going above and beyond during interactions with a patient with special needs. Due to severe anxiety, the patient was scheduled for a CT scan under anesthesia. A scheduling conflict delayed the scan, which caused the patient significant stress and fear. Oliver gave the patient a hug and talked to him in a soothing tone. By the end of the conversation, the patient calmed down and agreed to attempt the scan without sedation. Oliver stayed with the patient throughout the entire exam, holding his hand and speaking calmly to him. The scan was performed successfully, and the patient did not need anesthesia.

The staff at the Center for Musculoskeletal Care, Verdi 4 East, was honored for compassion and teamwork in patient-centered care. They recently cared for an 83-year-old who had been admitted for hip surgery. While the patient was recovering in the unit, her son passed away. The entire staff came together to ensure the patient could attend the funeral – styling the patient’s hair, dressing her and arranging transportation to the funeral home. Upon returning to the hospital, the patient expressed gratitude and appreciation to the staff for their efforts.

All employees, physicians and volunteers are eligible for the monthly PEACE recognition. Send nominations to: PEACEaward@ynhh.org.
