Employee survey results highlight strengths and opportunities for improvement
Seventy-six percent of Yale New Haven Hospital employees completed the 2019 Employee Engagement Pulse Survey, with overall results indicating areas of strength as well as opportunities for improvement.
While overall engagement among YNHH employees scored 4.03, slightly down from last year’s engagement score (4.11), results show the majority of employees are proud to tell people they work for Yale New Haven Hospital and would recommend the hospital to family and friends who need care.
Participants were also generally pleased with career development opportunities available at YNHH and felt the organization offers a stable work environment.
Additionally, employees indicated they were happy with diversity and inclusion efforts; and a majority said they feel their managers treat them with respect. Although survey results show a number of strengths, they also point to a need for improvement in critical areas such as increased focus on employee well-being, work-life balance and care safety and quality.
“We welcome employee feedback, not only from the annual Employee Engagement Survey, but through many different vehicles throughout the year,” said Kevin Myatt, YNHHS senior vice president and chief human resources officer. “It was largely due to employee concerns that we recently developed a transformative employee compensation and benefits plan with enhancements that address employee feedback about what matters most to them at home and at work. Employees’ voices are important and we want to continue to hear from them on how we can make Yale New Haven one of the best places to work.”
Press Ganey, Inc., an independent company, administered the survey, compiled employees’ confidential responses and provided results in aggregate. Senior leaders read all written comments on surveys, which are anonymous.
Over the next several weeks, managers and department leaders will share their department/unit survey results with employees, and many work groups throughout the organization will develop action plans to address the departments’ areas of concern.
