ICD-10 is scheduled to go live Oct. 1, after 15 months of preparation at Yale New Haven Health System. This new coding system will dramatically increase the granularity and level of detail in healthcare data, which underpins numerous YNHHS operations.

To prepare, the YNHHS project team has organized and implemented intensive education for medical staff and clinical coders. Preparation is complete, but the ICD- 10 journey is not over. In the coming months the ICD-10 project team will monitor coding accuracy and productivity, physician documentation and revenue cycle metrics. Ongoing communication and remediation will be provided if issues arise.
