At Yale-New Haven Hospital we recognize the importance of breastfeeding on the health of babies. We provide support and resources to women who decide to breastfeed including providing education before and after the baby is born as well as hands-on teaching from specially trained maternity nurses and certified lactation consultants who are available 7 days a week. They help women experiencing breastfeeding problems, such as latching difficulties, pain and low milk supply.
Once the mother is discharged, follow up support is provided through our BABY program, and Back to Work breastfeeding classes.
We also offer personalized bra fittings, breast pump rentals, breastfeeding supplies and necessities at A Mother's Place boutique located on the 10th floor of the Children's Hospital.
Nursing mothers face challenges and have many questions and concerns along the way. Is my baby getting enough to eat? Am I breastfeeding my baby correctly? How often should I breastfeed? Where can I purchase a well-fitting nursing bra? What are my options for pumping? When can I return to work?
We are always available to answer your questions. Stop by our offices or try our Breastfeeding Couples Class or free Breastfeeding Mothers' Support Group.
