Urogynecology Services

Urogynecology services at Yale New Haven Hospital evaluates and treats urogynecology conditions such as:

  • Urinary incontinence (accidental leakage of urine)
  • Fecal incontinence (accidental leakage of gas or stool)
  • Pelvic organ prolapse (dropped organs)
  • Interstitial cystitis (bladder wall inflammation)
  • Urinary tract disorders
  • Recurrent or multiple urinary tract/bladder infections
  • Difficulty emptying the bladder
  • Difficulty evacuating stool
  • Vulvar pain syndrome (vulvodynia)

Our urogynecologists use advanced diagnostic procedures to determine the cause of each patient's urogynecologic condition and work with the patient and her referring physician to map out the best course of treatment. We generally employ non-surgical treatments first; however, when surgery becomes necessary, our urogynecologists most often recommend minimally-invasive methods.

We offer non-surgical treatments, such as biofeedback, functional electrical stimulation, behavioral modification therapy, and periurethral collagen injections; and surgical procedures such as suburethral sling, and Burch colposuspension for appropriate patients with incontinence and/or prolapse.

Breast Center Services

When a woman discovers breast health problems and symptoms such as a lump in her breast, discharge or pain; or finds out about an abnormality after receiving a mammogram, it is common and understandable for her to feel worried and anxious. It's important to note that only a small percentage of these symptoms turn out to be caused by cancer. No matter the diagnosis, the Breast Center provides multidisciplinary, patient-focused care to women diagnosed with breast cancer or other breast health problems.

Our Breast Center is focused on providing coordinated simultaneous appointments with all the appropriate specialties. And when the diagnosis is cancer, the Breast Cancer Program at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven provides convenient appointments, rapid diagnosis and breast cancer treatment and access to the most up-to-date technology and research protocols. Most importantly, patients receive personal, friendly, confidential care that is designed to meet the needs of the whole patient.
