Benefits include reduced trauma to the body, less blood loss, less postoperative pain, fewer complications, a reduced hospital stay and faster recovery times.
Minimally invasive endovascular repair is performed through tiny incisions in the groin using advanced X-ray and catheter technology. Our vascular surgeons also have many minimally invasive treatment technologies available to help restore the blood flow to the legs and feet of patients with clogged arteries from peripheral vascular disease.
Other vascular services include:
- Diagnostic procedures like arteriograms, angiography and ultrasounds
- Aneurysm treatment and repair
- Carotid artery and renal artery treatment
- Interventional radiology such as stent placement
- Vein removal
Our expert vascular physicians treat hundreds of patients each year from across the state, and have the third highest volume in Connecticut.
Advanced vascular surgery with reduced recovery time
We are one of only a few hospitals in Connecticut performing a new procedure to repair potentially fatal enlargements of the aorta, the body's largest blood vessel. This new procedure, known as endovascular grafting surgery, requires only a two- to three-day hospital stay, compared with five to seven days for traditional surgery, and about two weeks of recovery. A vascular surgeon and interventional radiologist work as a team to perform the procedure, which requires just two small incisions. They then use a catheter (a thin tube), and visual imaging, to insert a synthetic piece of artery into the aorta.
Patients must meet specific health guidelines to undergo this surgery, including general health and certain anatomic considerations.
We offer a unique, personalized approach to managing vascular problems. In addition to our vascular clinic and traditional vascular surgery, we perform minimally invasive procedures which decrease your discomfort and the length of your hospital stay.
