heart month

YNHH employees got into the spirit of National Wear Red Day last year. Everyone is encouraged to celebrate this year’s Wear Red Day, Friday, Feb. 2, by wearing at least a touch of red to show their support for heart health.

February Heart Month activities focus on heart health

From news articles to videos with physicians from the Heart and Vascular Center (HVC), Yale New Haven Health will offer heart-health tips and events during Heart Month in February.

  • By Feb. 1, YNHHS’ dedicated Heart Month webpages at ynhhs.org/smarthearts will feature articles on topics such as signs of heart disease, coronary artery disease treatments, congenital heart disease and important health screenings. Video topics will include types of heart disease, cardiovascular disease in women and cardiovascular genetics.
  • Friday, Feb. 2, is National Wear Red Day 2024 and all are encouraged to participate by wearing at least a touch of red. Blood pressure screenings will be offered at HVC ambulatory locations and YNHHS hospitals. Information on heart-health will also be shared by HVC experts, nutrition, pharmacy and the American Heart Association. YNHHS’ social media pages will include photos of employees in support of heart health. Heart health tips and information will also be posted on social media throughout the month.
  • The 2024 Greater New Haven Go Red for Women® event will be 5:30 pm - 8 pm Wednesday, Feb. 7, at its new location, the Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale, 155 Temple St. This signature event will feature refreshments, a silent auction, keynote speaker and fundraising appeal. Event co-chairs are Joyce Oen-Hsiao, MD, director of Cardiac Rehabilitation, YNHHS HVC, and associate professor of clinical medicine (cardiology), Yale School of Medicine; and Francine LoRusso, RN, senior vice president, Operations, and executive director, Heart and Vascular Services, Transplantation Center, Medicine and Radiology Services, YNHHS. The Heart and Vascular Center at Yale New Haven Health is the platform sponsor. Visit www.heart.org/gorednewhaven for more event information.
