Yale New Haven Children's Hospital's pediatric urology services provides treatment for genital and urologic problems of infants, children and adolescents from common issues such as circumcision and descended testicles to serious congenital and acquired genitourinary defects. The team of board-certified urologists and advanced practice registered nurses (APRN) are highly experienced in fields such as bladder and bowel dysfunction, robotic surgery, minimally invasive and reconstructive surgery, disorders of sexual differentiation, kidney stones, as well as routine genital and urologic issues. Our pediatric urologists take care of the simple to the complex, and collaborate with other pediatric specialists which include psychologists, surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, neurologists and gastroenterologists, to provide the highest level of comprehensive care for your child.
The Bladder and Continence Program provides state-of-the-art treatment to children with urinary incontinence and lower urinary tract symptoms. The experienced team treats children with neurogenic and functional causes of urinary incontinence. Non-invasive therapies include biofeedback, behavioral therapy and electrical stimulation.
Our Spina Bifida Program involves an array of pediatric specialists. A multidisciplinary team leads the urological care of patients with spina bifida as well as other neurogenic bladder problems, coordinating care with other pediatric specialists. The team is committed to providing these patients with the latest options available in medicine, minimally invasive techniques and surgical reconstruction. Our goal is to treat patients to avoid augmentation surgery, if at all possible. We also have a Transitional Care Program to maintain continuity of care as these patients age from adolescents to adults.
The Stone Program offers a multidisciplinary approach to care for the treatment of kidney stones in children. The team is composed of pediatric nephrologists, urologists, radiologists, nutritionists and interventional radiologists. Both surgical and non-surgical treatment options are offered based on the needs of patients. Treatment options include the use of shock waves to break up stones into smaller particles, as well as minimally invasive approaches using endoscopic or other techniques to break up and extract the stones.
Differences in Sexual Development is a multidisciplinary program featuring a team of specialists that includes urology, endocrinology, genetics, gynecology, social work and psychology. They are available for consultation on patients with atypical genitalia and other hormonal or genetic issues impacting sexual development. These can include congenital adrenal hyperplasia, androgen insensitivity, Klinefelter's syndrome, Turner's syndrome, hypospadias, and all other variations that may impact sexual development.
