Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital leaders recently announced a grant from the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation’s Dogs for Joy program that will bring two service dogs in residence to the hospital next year. In partnership with their designated, trained handlers, these service dogs will teach children tasks such as how to take a pill, keep children calm during medical procedures, encourage young patients to get out of bed for a walk and much more. Cooper, the Joy in Childhood Foundation’s four-legged ambassador, stopped by YNHCH for a July 23 event announcing the grant. The Joy in Childhood Foundation is a not-for-profit organization powered by Dunkin’ and Baskin- Robbins. The foundation’s goal is to provide the simple joys of childhood to kids battling hunger or illness.
