Gastroenterology Hospitalists

Unique to Yale New Haven Hospital, patients admitted for digestive health related conditions receive expert care from specially trained gastroenterology hospitalists who are board-certified in both gastroenterology and internal medicine. Their unique skill set is a benefit to patient care and allows them to perform gastrointestinal procedures in the hospital when needed. Patients’ physicians are kept informed throughout the hospitalization and can easily access information via the secure electronic medical record database.

Gastrointestinal Pathology

At times it is necessary to take tissue samples of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, and pancreas for further evaluation to best diagnose a patient. Fortunately, the gastroenterologists and surgeons at Yale New Haven Hospital have access to a group of sub-specialty trained gastrointestinal pathologists at Yale Pathology Labs who provide expert diagnosis of tissue samples. Many of these pathologists are internationally recognized leaders in the field devoted to providing clear, accurate and complete pathology reporting for all patients. Employing state-of-the-art practices, innovative technologies, and molecular analyses, together with our Digestive Health team, they create the most effective treatment plan for our patients.
