Blood and Marrow Transplantation
The Blood and Marrow Transplantation program offers children and families the hope of a potential cure for a wide range of diseases, including cancers (leukemia, lymphoma, brain tumors, and other solid tumors), blood disorders, immune system diseases, as well as many inherited genetic diseases and bone marrow failure syndromes. We are accredited for pediatric autologous transplantation by the Foundation for Accreditation of Cellular Therapies (FACT).
Yale New Haven Children's Blood and Marrow Transplantation program offers bone marrow, peripheral blood stem cell and cord blood transplants. No matter what type of transplant your child receives, the cells we use are immature cells that grow into blood cells that your child needs: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. These new cells develop into your child's new immune system.
Our offerings include:
- Autologous stem cell transplants for children with Hodgkin lymphoma, neuroblastoma and other solid tumors
- Allogeneic transplants using HLA-matched sibling donors for children with leukemias, hematologic disorders, blood and marrow failure disorders, metabolic diseases and immunodeficiencies
- Allogeneic transplants with unrelated or partially matched related donors for children who do not have a matched sibling donor
- Cord blood transplants using the umbilical cord blood of a sibling or unrelated donors
