Patient & visitor information
Your hospital admission
There are many different reasons and many different ways for patients to be admitted into Yale-New Haven Hospital, Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital and Yale-New Haven Psychiatric Hospital.
Scheduled visits
A patient's medical need allows time to plan for the upcoming hospital stay.
Inpatient visits
Many people come to stay at Yale-New Haven Hospital because they are having a
surgical procedure or operation that is performed in the operating room. There
are also many procedures that are done in clinics or in the Diagnostic Imaging
Department that require the patient to stay overnight or even longer. Appointment
times and arrival instructions for these non-surgical procedures are usually
provided either by your physician or by the department where your procedure
is being performed.
If you are having surgery or a procedure in the operating room and are expected
to stay overnight, there are some important things you need to take care of
before coming to the hospital.
Outpatient,
or ambulatory, visit - patient is able to go home after an
exam or medical procedure
Emergency visits
A patient's medical need requires immediate care. Generally, patients go directly to the Emergency Department, located on York Street either adult or children's emergency on Howard Ave.
