Diagnostic Radiology

As a diagnostic radiology professional, you’ll gain unparalleled experience in both clinical and research applications working with a full range of imaging technologies - including Web-based imaging, a full-time MRI center, breast imaging and biopsy services, advanced ultrasound capabilities and low-dose CT imaging.

Our services include:

  • Radiology: including general inpatient/outpatient, OR, Trauma and Bone Density
  • Breast Imaging: including a full range of biopsy services and the first in CT to offer 3D, Tomosynthesis Imaging
  • MRI: Comprehensive MRI Center with 1.5 and 3 T Scanners offering subspecialty imaging in Neurology/Neurosurgery, cardiac, pediatric and orthopaedics
  • CT: Offering low dose imaging protocols and subspecialty imaging in Cardiology and Bariatrics. Our scanners are on HD platforms.
  • US: Offering subspecialty imaging in Vascular, transplant and endocrine services
  • Nuclear Medicine and PET CT: Offering Diagnostic and Therapeutic procedures in multiple organ systems and specialties such as Endocrinology, Neurosciences and Oncology

This includes training and clinical didactic education for ultrasonographers through our School of Diagnostic Ultrasound—which offers both a 12-month general Sonography program and a 6-month Echocardiography program. And, we also serve as a clinical training site for programs in Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Therapy, Ultrasound and subspecialty teaching in CT and MRI through our affiliations with Gateway Community College and Quinnipiac University.

Laboratory Medicine

When you join our Laboratory Medicine department, you'll play a crucial role in the investigation, diagnosis and management of illness and disease for our patients. You will be a part of a team of technical, clerical, management and administrative professionals who work on-site at our acclaimed medical center. Not only does our team perform millions of tests each year for Yale New Haven Hospital, but we’re also a regional reference laboratory for New England and a national reference laboratory for various advanced diagnostic studies.

Physician Assistant

Yale New Haven Hospital offers physician assistants unique opportunities to face a complex case mix, play a key role in patient care and collaborate with our Emergency Medicine and Surgery departments. Getting Started

Upon joining our team as a Physician Assistant, you’ll take part in our individually-tailored orientation program, giving you the opportunity to demonstrate specialty-specific competencies, and—at the same time—helping you become familiar with the workflow of each specialty service within the hospital.


In the Department of Pharmacy Services, you’ll have the opportunity to continually learn and grow with the most sophisticated technologies. Our medical center uses computerized physician order entry and advanced clinical knowledge systems with automated dispensing devices. We think that by creating a stimulating and enriching work environment, our patients benefit by getting the highest-quality pharmaceutical care.

When you work at the Department of Pharmacy Services, you’ll be working side-by-side with clinical specialists, pharmacists, residents, students, technicians, clerks and support staff. Our team has more than 300 members and over 100 clinical specialists – all of whom have the same goal of providing our patients comprehensive and compassionate care. We’re using evidence-based, decentralized services along with cutting-edge technological applications to help pioneer new regimens, new protocols and raise the level of patient-care.

Pharmacist board certification is valued and supported, with over 50% of our pharmacists having achieved this certification in their specialty. As a teaching site for the Doctor of Pharmacy programs at the University of Connecticut and University of Saint Joseph, our Pharmacy residents have the opportunity to mentor students, participate in campus lectures and get involved in a new teaching development program offered by the University of Connecticut.

Our department provides a number of acclaimed specialty pharmacy services, including:

Smilow Cancer Hospital

Oncology pharmacists play a critical role in the innovative treatments performed by Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven. You’ll be part of the team that’s developing personalized cancer care through innovative tumor profiling techniques and genetic counseling. You’ll be providing patient education and ensuring safe and effective therapy for inpatients and numerous outpatient clinics.

Children’s Hospital

All of the staff at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital is dedicated to providing children with kind and compassionate care. As a pediatric pharmacist, you’ll help ensure that children receive medications that are safe and effective, while focusing on the unique needs of the patient.

Psychiatric Hospital

At Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital, you’ll be part of a multidisciplinary treatment team. You will help support and care for adults, adolescents and geriatric patients with a variety of psychiatric diagnoses. You’ll educate patients on their medication treatment while ensuring safe and effective medication therapy.

Transplant Service

Yale New Haven Transplantation Center (YNHTC) provides expert and comprehensive care for adult and pediatric patients who are candidates for organ transplantation. Our Transplant Pharmacists help to optimize mediation regimens and provide education to transplant donors.

The Center for Drug Information

Our state-of-the art drug information center uses advanced literature retrieval and analysis services to provide electronic and print materials on-demand. The center provides support for our hospital’s patient care, education, research and community outreach efforts.

Investigational Drug Service

As part of our pharmacy staff, you’ll help support and review and develop new protocols, inventory control techniques, patient enrollment and randomization procedures. Your work will help advance the research activities of both the University and Hospital.

Ambulatory Care Services

Point-of-care testing, patient education and medication therapy management are all services provided to patients in our Anticoagulation, Diabetes, Tuberculosis and Hyperlipidemia Clinics. Those are just a few of the opportunities you’ll have as a clinical pharmacist, as well as working with the Apothecary & Wellness Center (outpatient pharmacy), in the discharge/concierge program, providing services to clinic patients or working in the Grimes Center (skilled nursing facility).


Since our Central Pharmacy staff is supplemented by satellite stations in many other hospital units, you’ll have the opportunity to specialize in a wide range of patient care areas – Critical Care, Pediatrics, Oncology, Transplant and general Medical/Surgical. Pharmacist participation in medical staff rounding, medication use evaluation, drug information and patient education is also highly encouraged.

Pharmacy Technicians

We’re dedicated to providing our Pharmacy Technicians with every opportunity to succeed. You can lead quality assurance activities, help ensure safe and effective drug distribution and be able to participate in a number of areas – including IV admixture, advanced automated delivery systems and our Investigational Drug Service. We’ll help support your efforts to gain national certification and are prepared to reward your commitment with exciting career advancement opportunities.

Rehabilitation Services

Imagine being able to help improve a life every time you show up to work. As a member of our Rehabilitation Services Department, you’ll master the techniques that can maximize a patient’s functional capability. You’ll play a key role in providing the highest quality occupational therapy, physical therapy or pediatric speech-language pathology services and do it in a setting that’s clinically efficacious and sensitive to the needs of our patients and their families.

Social Work

Our social workers help positively impact patients' lives as they cope with the challenges of illness, hospitalization and other difficulties. You will play a crucial role in connecting people to a variety of support groups and community-wide initiatives, and deliver the patient- and family-centered care people have come to expect from us.

Upon joining the Social Work department, you'll complete an orientation program tailored to your individual needs, where we'll prepare you to play an active role in a variety of inpatient and outpatient clinical settings, including:

Radiation Therapy

Our Radiation Therapy department is composed of Connecticut’s largest team of therapists, dosimetrists, and physicians. We are closely aligned with Yale Cancer Center, one of only 41 Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the U.S. designated by the National Cancer Institute. We are committed to providing the most comprehensive radiation therapy services in the northeast.

We are committed to supporting the ongoing education and professional development of everyone who joins our Radiation Therapy team. As a member of our department, you’ll use the most sophisticated technologies, protocols and specialty services available — including high and low dose Brachytherapy, IMRT and SBRT external beam-approached treatments, Gamma Knife and more. We opened the first Radiation Therapy School in the U.S. in 1964, and today we offer the only Residency program in Connecticut.

Respiratory Care

As a member of our Respiratory Care department, you will do rotations in Adult Specialty ICUs, a Pediatric ICU, a Level III Newborn ICU, and a Level 1 Trauma Adult and Pediatric Emergency Services unit. You’ll be part of a team of NBRC registered and registry-eligible practitioners licensed by Connecticut – a comprehensive team of professionals few other hospitals have the resources to support.
