Chest Pain Center

After evaluation and testing in the Emergency Department, most patients complaining of chest pains can be treated in the Chest Pain Center. Cardiac imaging technology that provides three-dimensional images of the heart enables doctors to understand what is causing chest pain before they make a decision to admit a patient. Only a small percentage of those who come to the ED complaining of chest pain are actually experiencing a heart attack. For many, the center is able to answer the question about the pain's cause in less than a day without being admitted to the hospital. If you think you may be having a heart attack, dial 9-1-1. To reach the Chest Pain Center, call (203) 688-2222.

If you need the help of a specialist, the clinic can arrange treatment with one of its Yale faculty consultants. Office hours are Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. For dental emergencies, or to make an appointment, call (203) 688-2464.

Inpatient Services

Yale-New Haven is at the forefront of care for acutely ill geriatric patients. The hospital continues to explore ways of minimizing hospital-related complications to provide smoother discharge. In the Continuing Care Unit, staff work to return patients with combined physical and medical ailments home, rather to a long-term care facility. In one program, staff nurses receive extra training in geriatric nursing. Another program provides daily visits by Elder Horizons specialists and volunteers. For information about inpatient services for the older patient, call (203) 688-2175.

A special geriatric psychiatry unit is designed to meet the needs of the older individual with psychiatric illness. Call (203) 688-7201 to make a referral.
