History of Auxiliary
Since 1953, the Auxiliary has contributed over $5 million to support the hospital and its programs. Our committees offer assistance, support and education in a variety of ways to continually support the hospital’s needs and community outreach efforts. 1952
Dr. Albert Snoke establishes a formal Women's Auxiliary of Grance-New Haven Community Hospital at the request of the Board of Directors.
1953
Opens Carryall Coffee and Gift Shop, forerunner of today's Atrium Gift Shop, as the Auxiliary's first major fundraising venture.
1962
Pledges $90,000 toward the construction of the Dana Clinic Building entrance.
1964
Gains a seat on the Hospital's Board of Trustees.
1967
Helps establish the Child Life Program at YNHH. Pledges $80,000 to renovate Pediatric Unit.
1970
Funds DART (Detection, Assessment, Referral and Treatment) program for abused children.
1976
Introduces "Jamie Goes to the Hospital" program for school children to help lessen fear associated with going to the hospital.
1982
Introduces Notes at Noon summer concert series.
1984
Completes $250,000 pledge toward the construction of the South Pavilion.
1991
Pledges $500,000 toward the construction of the Children's Hospital at Yale New Haven.
1993
Dedicates the Atrium, after donating $500,000 towards its construction.
Creates the Toy Closet Program proposed by Channel 8 anchor Ann Nyberg.
1994
Establishes the Project Grants Committee to support special needs and projects for hospital departments.
Joins with hospital staff to start the Toy Closet Golf Outing.
1995
Initiates health education lectures by noted YNHH health professionals.
Partners with area garden clubs to maintain the pediatric gardens.
1996
Commits $66,000 to create a hospital archive.
Donates $140,000 to purchase a mammography van for YNHH.
2002
Celebrates its 50th anniversary and pledges $250,000 for the Yale New Haven Breast Center.
2004
Pledges $100,000 for the playroom in the Childrens' Hospital.
2005
Establishes two scholarships for the Southern Connecticut Black Nurses Association.
2007
Donates $100,000 for the digital mammography van.
2008
Establishes a Toy Closet Program at the Yale New Haven Shoreline Medical Center.
2009
Completes its $500,000 pledge to Smilow Cancer Hospital.
2010
Renovation of the Atrium Gift Shop.
2011
Presents An Evening of Cabaret and contributes $30,250 to the Aortic Institute at Yale New Haven Hospital and the Yale School of Medicine.
2013
Toy Closet Program celebrates its 20th anniversary.
2014
The Auxiliaries of Yale New Haven Hospital and Hospital of Saint Raphael are combined.
2015
Pledges $1 million towards Center for Musculoskeletal Care and YNHCH's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
