Overview

Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital’s dedicated Crisis Intervention Center provides 24/7 behavioral health care in a safe, therapeutic environment for children up to and including 15 years of age.

We care for youth who are experiencing:

  • Thoughts of suicide or self-harm
  • Feelings of depression, anxiety, or hopelessness
  • Substance misuse
  • Any mental health crisis
  • Any behavior beyond what you can handle alone

The Crisis Intervention Center is within our Children’s Emergency Department, and our clinicians are trained to address crisis concerns, complete an evaluation and connect youth to appropriate services.

Our team provides:

  • 24/7 behavioral health care and assessments for children in crisis
  • EMPATHIC framework (EMergency Psychiatric Assessment Treatment and Healing in Crisis)
  • Multi-disciplinary collaborative approach from a team of psychiatrists, social workers, milieu counselors, nurses, child life specialists, psychologists, and therapists for holistic care
  • Sensory friendly environment to support healing
