Bauer E. Sumpio, MD, PhD, chief of vascular surgery at Yale New Haven Hospital and professor of surgery and radiology at Yale School of Medicine, was recently named president-elect of the New England Society for Vascular Surgery. The New England Society for Vascular Surgery is the first regional vascular society in the country, and covers Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and parts of New York.
Dr. Sumpio, a resident of Woodbridge, CT, has been chief of the section of vascular surgery and program director of vascular surgery, as well as the associate director of graduate medical education at Yale New Haven since 1995. He is an attending surgeon at Yale New Haven Hospital and at the West Haven VA Medical Center, as well as a member of the courtesy attending staff at Bridgeport Hospital. Dr. Sumpio received his undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University and both his MD and PhD from Cornell University. He completed his surgical residency at Yale New Haven Hospital and served a vascular fellowship at the University of North Carolina.
