NEW HAVEN, CT (April 28, 2015) Marna P. Borgstrom, CEO, Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) has been named to Modern Healthcare Magazine’s Top 25 Women in Healthcare for 2015.
Borgstrom, CEO of the Yale New Haven Health System, has been with the organization since the beginning of her professional career. Mrs. Borgstrom received her Master's of Public Health at Yale School of Medicine, and has been at Yale New Haven Hospital since 1979 where she has held positions of increasing responsibility. She has held a variety of staff and leadership roles at the organization before being named chief operating officer in 1994 and CEO in 2005. Along the way, the organization has grown steadily, including acquisitions that have blended secular and religious providers. She serves on several national and local boards, including VHA, Inc. in Dallas, the Association of American Medical Colleges, The Coalition to Protect America’s Healthcare and the Connecticut Hospital Association.

To select Modern Healthcare's sixth biennial list of the Top 25 Women in Healthcare, the magazine issued a call for nominations on Dec. 15, 2014 with nearly 200 nominations submitted. Modern Healthcare accepted nominees from all sectors of the industry, including hospitals, health systems, physician organizations, insurers, government, vendors and suppliers, and trade and professional organizations and nominees were judged the candidates on the following criteria:
• Successfully served as a leader of or managed an organization or company
• Shown the ability or power to effect change in the healthcare industry
• Demonstrated a willingness to share expertise with others in the field
• Served as a role model or mentor to other female healthcare executives
• Assumed a leadership role in the industry outside of the candidate's own organization or company
