The Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) Department of Spiritual Care was recently awarded a grant from the John Templeton Foundation as part of the Transforming Chaplaincy: Promoting Research Literacy for Improved Patient Outcomes program.
Through this two-year grant, YNHH aims to better equip chaplain residents to use research to guide, evaluate, and advocate for the spiritual care they provide through their full-time residency program. They will also integrate research education and build a research learning community into the Clinical Pastoral Education residency program.
The Department of Spiritual Care at YNHH offers a prime educational environment at a Level I trauma center. The department has a 50-year history of serving persons of a wide variety of spiritual, religious and cultural backgrounds and a deep commitment to serving the community.
Headed by Rev. Susan Asher, their mission is to work in collaboration with all healthcare professionals to provide integrated, high-value, patient-centered, spiritual care which supports the way persons seek and express meaning and purpose, and experience connectedness to self, others, and the sacred. YNHH has been an institutional Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) center since 1965.
In addition to the residency program, summer and part-time positions are also available for interested clergy, seminarians, religious community leaders, theological students and/or laypersons. Details are listed below.
