New Haven, Conn. (July 6, 2026) — Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) has become the first hospital in Connecticut to earn certification for its Pregnancy After Loss Clinic through the U.S. Pregnancy After Loss Network, marking a significant advancement in specialized care for patients navigating pregnancy following miscarriage, stillbirth or infant loss.
This distinction underscores Yale New Haven Hospital’s leadership in delivering highly coordinated, patient-centered care for families during one of the most sensitive and emotionally complex times in their lives. The Pregnancy After Loss Clinic, part of Yale New Haven Hospital’s Maternal Fetal Medicine program, brings together a multidisciplinary team, including maternal-fetal medicine specialists, behavioral health experts, nurses and support staff, to provide personalized care tailored to each patient’s medical and emotional needs.
“Pregnancy after loss presents unique challenges, often accompanied by anxiety, uncertainty and grief,” said Katherine Kohari, MD, associate director, Fetal Care Center, Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital (YNHCH), medical director of YNHH’s Maternal-Fetal Medicine Program and assistant professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Services, Yale School of Medicine. “The clinic was designed to address these complexities by creating a supportive, responsive environment focused on care continuity, communication and trust.”
Dr. Kohari, who is the lead clinician at the clinic, emphasized pregnancy after loss requires both clinical expertise and compassion, highlighting the importance of ensuring patients feel heard and actively involved in their care.
“It is essential that parents feel their voices are heard, their experiences are acknowledged and their concerns are taken seriously,” she said. “Every family’s journey is different, and we work closely with each patient to build a care plan that reflects their individual needs and preferences.”
The Pregnancy After Loss Clinic offers enhanced monitoring, individualized care plans and integrated emotional support services throughout pregnancy. This approach helps provide reassurance while improving both clinical outcomes and the overall patient experience.
As the first program in the state to achieve this certification, Yale New Haven Hospital continues to advance innovative care models that address both the medical and human aspects of health care, ensuring patients and families feel supported every step of the way.
