7/19/2011 — Yale New Haven Hospital has been included among the top hospitals in the United States, according to U.S. News & World Report's annual "America's Best Hospitals." Of the 5,000 hospitals surveyed nationwide, 720 were ranked in at least one specialty. YNHH ranked at the national level in 12 of the 16 specialties surveyed.
Once again, YNHH had three specialties ranked in the nation's top 10: diabetes and endocrinology at #8; geriatrics at #10; and psychiatry at #10. YNHH is the only hospital in Connecticut to be included in the U.S. News listings.
In addition to its three top 10 ranked specialties, Yale New Haven also ranked among the very best in the nation in nine additional medical specialties: cancer; ear, nose and throat; gastroenterology; gynecology; heart and heart surgery; kidney disorders; neurology and neurosurgery; pulmonology; and urology.

"We consider Yale New Haven to be a world-class hospital. We have incredibly skilled and dedicated physicians and nurses and staff whose focus is on safe, high-quality care for our patients. This recognition by U.S. News is a commendation of their commitment to patient care."
According to U.S. News, hard numbers support the rankings in most specialties - death rates, patient safety, procedure volume and other objective data. Responses to a national survey, in which physicians were asked to name hospitals they consider best in their specialty for the toughest cases, also were factored in. In the May 2011 U.S. News rankings of American children's hospitals, Yale New Haven Children's Hospital was nationally ranked in five specialties — diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology, urology, neonatology and pulmonology.
Also in May, YNHH received further confirmation of its status among the elite U.S. hospitals when the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) — the world's largest and most prestigious nurse credentialing organization and a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association - granted Yale New Haven Magnet recognition, which signifies nursing excellence and recognized collaboration between nurses and members of the healthcare team. Only six percent of all American hospitals have been honored by the Magnet Recognition Program.
