New Haven, CT (March 4, 2026) – Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) has been recognized by Newsweek as one of the World’s Best Hospitals for 2026, earning a ranking of number 173 globally – a distinction that underscores the hospital’s longstanding commitment to excellence in patient care, innovation, and safety.
This prestigious honor from Newsweek and Statista reflects international evaluations of quality measures, patient satisfaction, and recommendations from medical professionals. YNHH’s placement among the world’s top hospitals highlights the strength of its clinical programs, the expertise of its caregivers, and its leadership as a destination for complex, compassionate care.
“Our ranking among the world’s best hospitals is an affirmation of the exceptional dedication our teams bring to patients every day,” said Katherine Heilpern, MD, president of YNHH. “This recognition reflects not only our clinical excellence but our relentless commitment to safety, innovation, and the patient experience.”
In addition to its Newsweek ranking, YNHH celebrates several major achievements this year:
YNHH remains dedicated to excellence across all specialties while advancing research, education, and innovations that shape the future of medicine.
Newsweek and Statista’s World’s Best Hospitals 2026 ranking highlights top global hospitals along with national rankings. The rankings are based on expert recommendations, hospital quality metrics, patient-experience data, and Statista’s Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) survey, which captures patients’ functional well-being and quality of life.
More than 2,500 hospitals were assessed worldwide, with special recognition given to the top 250 institutions. This year’s evaluation placed greater emphasis on hospital quality metrics, incorporated expanded accreditation and patient experience data across multiple countries, and elevated the role of PROMs through enhanced weighting and a revised implementation survey.
Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH), part of Yale New Haven Health, is a nationally recognized, 1,541-bed, not-for-profit hospital serving as the primary teaching hospital for the Yale School of Medicine (YSM).
