Hospital Charging Information
It is important to understand that what Yale New Haven Hospital receives as payment for care is not reflected in the disclosed charges. Charges may not reflect the amount a patient is expected to pay upon receiving care.
Healthcare insurance companies negotiate rates with the hospitals and pay based on these contracted rates regardless of the charge amount. These rates vary between the different health insurance companies.
Payment includes both reimbursement from the insurance companies and also the amount received from patients directly for the deductible, coinsurance or co-pay as well as charges for services not covered by the insurance policy. These payment amounts will vary based on the plan you have selected from your insurance company.
Uninsured patients and others who may be financially challenged may apply for financial assistance. Learn more about financial assistance.
