With a gift from the Auxiliary, a Sanctuary Garden at the Adams Neurosciences Center will bloom for patients, families and staff.

At its 72nd Annual Meeting Sept. 17, the Yale New Haven Hospital Auxiliary announced a $1 million gift toward creation of a Sanctuary Garden at the new Adams Neurosciences Center. The gift will be spread over five years.

Pamela Scagliarini, senior vice president, Administration, Adams Neurosciences Center, was guest speaker at the meeting. She thanked Auxiliary members for their gift and talked about the design of the building and the elements that were considered.

“When we think about the design, who are we serving?” she asked. “We are serving our patients and their caregivers, who are the family members and close friends, and our care team.

“From a caregiver’s perspective, we have family respite rooms, waiting rooms and lot of gathering spaces,” she continued. “The Sanctuary Garden is one of those spaces that is designed for everybody. There are even some design principles around the plants.”

Scagliarini noted that the exterior of the Neurosciences Center is mostly complete, but interior work continues. The project is expected to be completed in October 2026, with go-live scheduled for February 2027.

She also discussed other projects that are part of Yale New Haven’s substantial investment in the Saint Raphael Campus, including expansion and renovation of the Heart and Vascular Center, Emergency Department and other clinical spaces. Many of these projects are scheduled to be finished in 2028.
