Yale New Haven Hospital

New visitor badge process helps eliminate sticky situations

Showing an example of a new visitor badge recently were patient experience ambassadors (l-r): Nicole Hie, Stephanie Cunningham and Ashley Palmer.

The blue-and-white visitor stickers were everywhere: walls, floors and furniture inside Yale New Haven Hospital and on utility poles, signs and sidewalks outside.

Earlier this month, the hospital implemented a new visitor management badge process that replaced the stickers with wearable, temporary badge cards. The cards are easier for Protective Services and other staff to read, enhancing security. Each day of the week has a different-colored card so it’s easier to determine if a visitor has a valid and current pass. The new, more durable cards also include clips so they can be worn above the waist.

“This change addresses several concerns raised regarding the safety, cleanliness, durability and visibility of the previous sticker process,” said Dean Caruso, YNHH vice president, Support Services and Sustainability.
