The morning of May 21, YNHH leaders and staff celebrated the opening of the new section of the Saint Raphael Campus ED before welcoming patients.
Diane Rescigno, RN, has seen a lot of changes since coming to the former Hospital of Saint Raphael Emergency Department 38 years ago. She was part of a big change on May 21 when a new section of the Yale New Haven Hospital Saint Raphael Campus ED opened.
“This is a milestone for me,” Rescigno said, before posing with colleagues in front of the new ED entrance. “It’s a huge improvement.”
Hospital leaders and staff held a ribbon cutting to open the section, which features a new waiting area, triage bays, low-acuity bays and other enhancements. The new section adjoins the existing ED, a portion of which is now closed for renovation. When the entire project is finished in 2027 the ED will have expanded from 29,350 to 53,250 square feet and from 49 to 91 beds.
Devin Farmer, RN, nursing professional development specialist, Center for Nursing Excellence, said the new section should enhance efficiency, adding, “It’s beautiful.”
