Ash B. Alpert, MD

Ash B. Alpert, MD, (they/them) specializes in classical (non-cancerous) and malignant (cancerous) hematology, focusing on dismantling barriers to care for people experiencing structural oppression, including transgender people.

Dr. Alpert obtained their medical degree from the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine. They completed residency in internal medicine at Cambridge Hospital and clinical fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the Wilmot Cancer Institute of the University of Rochester Medical Center. They completed a postdoctoral fellowship in health services research at the Brown University School of Public Health.

Dr. Alpert works closely with a community advisory board of transgender individuals diagnosed with cancer. Together, they conduct research and advocate nationally for changes in hematology and oncology to improve accessibility for transgender people and other populations currently experiencing great threat. They received the Young Investigator Award from Conquer Cancer, the American Society for Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Foundation, and have been named the Bernard G. Forget Scholar for 2025-2026. They are also an essayist, novelist, and poet, and a faculty affiliate for the Humanities in Medicine program and the Equity Research and Innovation Center.
