Bradley Richards, MD

Brad Richards, MD, is currently the executive director of the Yale Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency Program. He received his MD from Georgetown University School of Medicine and an MBA from the Yale School of Management as part of the health care track in the executive MBA program. He completed his internal medicine residency and a chief resident year in the Yale Primary Care Internal Medicine training program before joining the faculty in the Department of Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. He previously served as the chief medical officer at the Department of Social Services (DSS), which oversees Medicaid and CHIP for Connecticut, and remains in the role of senior medical advisor at DSS. He continues to practice both inpatient and outpatient medicine, co-leads the course Population Health and Health Equity at Yale School of Management, co-leads the course Everyday Leadership at Yale School of Public Health, and co-leads the Primary Care Innovations curriculum for the Yale Primary Care training program.

Dr. Richards is also a primary care doctor who treats adults. When he meets a patient who is worried about a particular diagnosis, he tells them, “I understand that this might you feel nervous or scared, but we will work through this together.”

An assistant professor of medicine (general medicine) at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Richards says he is excited by the prospect of reforms in payment for primary care, “which I believe will drive primary care practice transformation for years to come.”
