Caitlyn Loucas, PhD, is a pediatric psychologist who cares for children, teens, and young adults facing cancer, sickle cell disease, and other chronic blood disorders. She works closely with patients and their families to help them cope with the emotional and behavioral challenges that can come with serious illness and intensive medical treatment.
Dr. Loucas provides care in both inpatient hospital and outpatient clinic settings. She helps patients manage anxiety, mood changes, treatment-related stress, and difficulties with sleep, school, and peer relationships. As part of a multidisciplinary team, she collaborates with medical providers, nurses, social workers, and other specialists to support the whole child, not just the illness. Her goal is to offer practical tools and a safe space where patients and families feel heard, understood, and supported throughout their care.
At Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Loucas serves as an assistant professor of child psychology. She is involved in program development to strengthen integrated behavioral health services within pediatric hematology and oncology. She also participates in research and is active in training and supervising psychology trainees, helping to prepare the next generation of pediatric psychologists.
Dr. Loucas earned her doctorate in psychology from American University. She completed her residency and postdoctoral fellowship in psychology at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Delaware, where she focused on pediatric oncology and hematology.
