Biography - Dawn Kopel, MD

Dawn Kopel, MD, is a clinical instructor at the Yale School of Medicine and an office-based gynecologist who takes a special interest in the care of patients with vulvovaginal disorders. She is a member of both the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease (ISSVD) and the International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health (ISSWSH).

In addition to her practice, she is committed to expanding access to health care through the education and training of medical students, nurse practitioner students, and residents.

"I chose a career in OB-GYN, which allowed me to combine a surgical specialty with continuity of care, all while providing a place where women could be heard,” Dr. Kopel says. “Later in my career, I was drawn to the care of the vulvovaginal patient, many of whom suffer in silence with unrecognized conditions and pain. Now with the help of the ISSVD, ISSWSH, and my many mentors, I work to provide the diagnostic clarity and relief these patients need and deserve.”

Dr. Kopel received her medical degree from Northwestern University in Chicago, followed by a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Medical College of Virginia.
