Biography

Dinesh Singh, MD, is a urologist who specializes in minimally invasive surgery for conditions such as kidney stones, prostate cancer, kidney cancer, and adrenal gland disease.

Dr. Singh started medical school at Columbia University in 1993 and completed his residency in urology at Harvard Medical School. From there, he completed a specialized training program in minimally invasive surgery at Cleveland Clinic and joined the faculty at Yale Medicine.

Dr. Singh became interested in urology during his third year in medical school. He was drawn to the field because of the tangible solutions he could provide his patients: “It’s very easy to see how you’re benefiting someone, it’s very measurable—‘I cured a cancer today.’ ‘I relieved someone of pain today.’ ‘I allowed someone to urinate without a catheter.’ There’s very concrete ways where I can answer the question, ‘What did I do today?’” he says.

Dr. Singh was also drawn to the patient-doctor relationship many urologists have. “Unlike a lot of surgical fields where you may operate on a patient and not see them again, in urology, we have a really significant longitudinal care component,” he says. “We’re usually the ones who are following up with them, not a medical oncologist or another doctor.” He’s been seeing some of his patients at Yale for over 15 years.

In addition to seeing patients, Dr. Singh conducts research on monitoring kidney cancer, reducing radiation exposure for patients with kidney stones, and finding predictors for patients who have kidney stones versus another diagnosis. He is an assistant professor of urology at the Yale School of Medicine.
