Ryan Hebert, MD, is a fellowship-trained neurosurgeon specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of neurovascular disorders. He is a specialist in both open and endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, carotid disease, and dural arteriovenous fistulas of the brain and spine. He is a specialist in interventions for the treatment of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. In addition to operative and ICU treatment of cerebrovascular disease, Dr. Hebert has extensive training in the treatment of brain tumors, brain and spine trauma, and open and minimally invasive spine surgery.
Dr. Hebert was born in the New Orleans, La., metropolitan area. He attended the University of Colorado – Boulder where he attained a bachelor’s degree in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. He was awarded a Howard Hughes Undergraduate research grant for his work on the role of brain-derived neurotrophic factor in neocortical development in mice. He attended the Yale School of Medicine where his NIH-funded thesis work focused on the function of CCM3 in cerebral cavernous malformations.
After medical school, Dr. Hebert completed 7 years of residency training at Yale New Haven Hospital in Neurosurgery. During this time, he received extensive training in brain and spine surgery. In addition, Dr. Hebert spent dedicated residency time training in neuro-interventional techniques as an enfolded fellow. After residency, he completed a CAST-accredited fellowship in Endovascular Neurosurgery and Neurovascular Critical Care at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa., where he learned the latest techniques in treating intracranial aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations of the brain and spine, and carotid disease.
Dr. Hebert’s research interest include emerging techniques for treating intracranial aneurysm and arteriovenous malformations, risk stratification and treatment of symptomatic and asymptomatic carotid disease, predictors and treatment of vasospasm in aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, and outcomes after minimally invasive spine surgery.
Dr. Hebert practices at Yale New Haven and Lawrence and Memorial Hospitals. He lives in Branford, Conn., with his wife, who is a doctor of nursing practice.
