Sandy Chang, MD, PhD, is a pathologist who specializes in laboratory medicine, diagnosing a wide range of conditions by examining blood, tissues, and other samples in the laboratory.
As a professor at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Chang investigates how telomeres—protective caps at the ends of chromosomes—help maintain stable genetic information, which is especially important in early aging and cancer. His work aims to safeguard chromosome ends from damage.
Dr. Chang received his medical training from Cornell University Medical College and completed a residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He earned his doctoral degree from Rockefeller University. He has been honored by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the Ellison Medical Foundation, the Sidney Kimmel Foundation for Cancer Research, and the Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists. He was also elected to the American Society of Clinical Investigation.
