Vinod Srihari, MD

Vinod H. Srihari, MD, is a psychiatrist dedicated to improving the outcomes of early course schizophrenia spectrum disorders. His clinical focus involves treating recent onset or 'first-episode' psychosis, often using a combination of medication management and psychosocial interventions designed to stabilize symptoms and promote long-term recovery.

Dr. Srihari also serves as director of the program for Specialized Treatment Early in Psychosis (STEP) at Yale. STEP includes a comprehensive early intervention service and hosts a statewide learning health system that aims to improve access and care for all individuals with recent onset schizophrenia spectrum disorders.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Srihari is an active researcher and professor of psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine. His research spans from studies of the causes and mechanisms of schizophrenia to innovative clinical interventions and service-level improvements aimed at enhancing patient outcomes. He is particularly interested in developing tools to help predict how a patient's condition might progress and how to choose the best treatments. He also works on interventions to prevent decline and promote recovery in early psychosis patients.

Dr. Srihari has been instrumental in developing and implementing an evidence-based medicine approach in psychiatric training. This approach enables psychiatrists in training to ask, access, appraise, and apply the best available scientific evidence to their practice, thereby improving patient care and population health.

Dr. Srihari received his medical training from the University of Rochester and completed his residency in psychiatry and a fellowship at Yale School of Medicine.
