PGY2 Psychiatric Pharmacy
The PGY2 pharmacy residency in psychiatry is designed to equip residents with the skills necessary to participate as integral members of inpatient and outpatient interdisciplinary teams caring for individuals with psychiatric and neuropsychiatric disorders as well as assuming responsibility for patient-centered medication therapy.
The PGY2 psychiatric pharmacy residency consists of a series of learning experiences that span a 52 week period. Specific learning experiences and goals will be accomplished in discrete blocks of time, while others will occur longitudinally throughout the duration of the residency. Residency time will be generally structured as follows:

Residency Experiences
- Residency projects:
- Complete a longitudinal research project (quality improvement and/or cost savings)
- Complete a medication use evaluation (MUE)
- Submit research project for poster presentation at AAPP Annual Meeting
- Prepare at least one manuscript suitable for publication
- Must either be on longitudinal research project, MUE, or other, additional research project approved by residency program director (RPD)
- Case reports do not fulfill this requirement
- Project days: 7 days (may work remote, not a continuous block)
- If PharmAcademic evaluations are not completed by the resident by the last day of the rotation, project days/time must be utilized to complete them before beginning next rotation

- Staffing:
• Two shifts every third weekend (12 day stretches required)
• Approximately 1-2 weekday shifts per month (total 20 days in addition to scheduled weekend shifts above)
• Remote on-call infectious disease formulary pager coverage (schedule to be determined)
• Any shift, including night shift, may be filled at discretion of pharmacy leadership.
PGY2 Psychiatry Requirements for Successful Graduation
- MUE (1)
- Clinical case conference (one 20-min presentation to pharmacy staff)
- Nursing and physician in-services (5)
- Journal club presentations (4)
- Manuscript (1)- must be on longitudinal research project, MUE, or other, additional research project approved by RPD
- Grand rounds presentation/CE (one 1-hr presentation to pharmacy staff)
- Longitudinal research/QI project (1)
- Complete all required staffing days
- Precept APPE student or PGY1 pharmacy resident (1)
- Prepare or revise a monograph, policy, protocol, or guideline (1)

May include precepting a PGY1 resident on the assignment
- Appendix complete (100% complete & documented in PharmAcademic)
- PharmAcademic evaluations complete (self, preceptor, and learning experience)
- End-of-year residency feedback survey complete
- Portfolio complete (all required, completed documents uploaded to “Files” tab in PharmAcademic)
- Compliant with all pharmacist mandatory requirements (ie, current pharmacist license in good standing, completion of all YNHH mandatory training)
- At least 80% of required residency objectives marked as achieved for the residency (ACHR- defined as preceptor marked objective as “achieved” on at least two occasions OR other documentation submitted to PharmAcademic demonstrating achievement of the objective as evaluated by the RPD)
The learning experiences will include a series of learning activities designed to expose the resident to many facets of pharmacy practice with guidance from the preceptor. An individual resident plan and calendar will be developed for each resident.
