Public invited to tee off at Looking Forward fundraiser for Smilow patients

Thursday, March 20, 2025

Virtual golf event is set for June 9

Yale New Haven Hospital’s Looking Forward Virtual Golf Event & Cocktail Party, presented by the Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) Auxiliary, will be held Wednesday, June 4, from 5 – 8:30 pm at Back 9 Social, 805 Colony Road in Wallingford. Tickets are available for purchase. The milestone celebration will commemorate 30 plus years of Looking Forward and help raise funds to directly benefit patients at Smilow Cancer Hospital

The public is invited to sign up to be a designated driver and collect monetary pledges or simply attend the cocktail party.

Last year’s Looking Forward Virtual Golf Event fundraiser raised more than $53,000 for Integrative Medicine/Complimentary Services at Smilow Cancer Hospital. This year’s goal is to continue building on last year's success to benefit patients.

“After my breast cancer diagnosis in 2019, I had the benefit of services provided by the Looking Forward Program,” said Kimberly Yates Carew, YNHH Auxiliary board member and chair of Looking Forward. “As I celebrate five years of being a survivor, I feel fortunate to chair this year's event.”

“I could never pay back the comfort these services brought me, but I can pay it forward so that others undergoing treatment are comforted,” she said. “Please consider purchasing a ticket to our event and joining me in this effort!”

YNHH Auxiliary President Hymie Glick has also seen firsthand the wonderful work the Looking Forward Program does.

“As a cancer survivor, I was a model in the 2023 Looking Forward Fashion Show and last year I was a designated driver. This year my cancer has returned and now as a Smilow patient, I am experiencing firsthand the way that the funding helps patients,” Glick said.

“For instance, I witnessed a woman ringing a bell to signify the completion of her treatment with a smile on her face. The plaque next to the bell read, Donated by the Looking Forward Program. I look forward to ringing the bell at the end of my own treatments,” he said.

Some of the many programs the Looking Forward Program has supported in the past include:

  • Multiple amenities carts to distribute items for patients undergoing treatments
  • The HOPE bracelet program
  • Zoom Yoga classes
  • Postsurgical mastectomy bras
  • Massage chairs for the Smilow Breast Centers, including refreshment carts and relaxation rooms
  • The Beyond Beauty program

To participate in this year’s event, visit LFGolfEvent.GiveSmart.com to register as a driver or to purchase party tickets. Tickets are $50 each, and designated drivers are admitted free with a minimum of $100 in pledges.
