Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital ranked #1 in CT and #2 in New England

New Haven, CT (June 15, 2021) – Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital (YNHCH), the top-ranked children’s hospital in Connecticut and second ranked hospital in New England, has been selected among the best children’s hospitals in the nation for six out of ten pediatric subspecialties in the 2021-22 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings, published online today by U.S. News & World Report. YNHCH ranked in diabetes and endocrinology (#6); neonatology (#27); nephrology (#27); gastroenterology and GI surgery (#37); pulmonology and lung surgery (#43); neurology and neurosurgery (#47).

“Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital has once again remained among the elite hospitals for pediatric patients not only in the region but in the United States,” said Clifford Bogue, MD, physician-in-chief and chief medical officer at YNHCH and chair of pediatrics, Yale School of Medicine.

“Everyone here at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital is committed to providing the best possible care for children and their families and that dedication is reflected in these national rankings,” said Cynthia Sparer, senior vice president Operations at Yale New Haven Hospital and executive director, YNHCH. “Our consistent ranking each year as Connecticut’s top children’s hospital means families from across our state and region benefit greatly. Vital to improving outcomes and supporting growth of our programs is our nationally-recognized leadership in quality and safety initiatives, and our commitment to recruiting and retaining top physicians and hospital staff.”

During the past year, as the COVID-19 pandemic required YNHCH to redirect many resources to care for those afflicted, YNHCH developed novel treatments for MIS-C and recently launched the Children’s Post-COVID Comprehensive Care Center to help children with long-term COVID-19 symptoms. YNHCH continued the commitment to provide exceptional care for children and their families and be among the leaders in advancing the field of pediatrics. The Children’s Hospital became the first and only UNOS approved pediatric heart transplant hospital in our region and performed a successful heart transplant in a pediatric patient, displaying the breadth and depth of the talented and skilled Children’s Heart Center team. YNHCH also became one of only three hospitals in the world to install the state-of-the art Embrace® Neonatal MRI system, designed specifically for our tiniest patients, providing enhanced care in the NNICU.

Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital is a national leader in pediatric care with campuses in New Haven and Bridgeport and a network of seven integrated Pediatric Specialty Centers provides access to more than 35 pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties across the region. The centers include: two at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital in New Haven and One Long Wharf in New Haven; 747 Belden Avenue in Norwalk; 500 West Putnam Avenue in Greenwich; 633 Middlesex Turnpike in Old Saybrook and 5520 Park Avenue in Trumbull.

Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital (YNHCH) offers Connecticut’s largest and most comprehensive array of pediatric services. With 208 licensed beds, YNHCH includes two neonatal intensive care units, a pediatric cardiac intensive care unit, a pediatric intensive care unit, a pediatric psychiatry unit, an adolescent psychiatry unit, 24-hour Level 1 Pediatric Emergency Trauma Center and a pediatric surgery center.
