Yale New Haven Hospital named a best workplace for commuters in 2021

Wednesday, March 24, 2021

New Haven (March 24, 2021) – Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) has been honored by Best Workplaces for Commuters (BWC) as one of the nation’s top employers for commuters for the tenth year in a row. During its evaluation, BWC found that over 14 percent of YNHH employees get to work by means other than driving alone. The hospital’s efforts to address employee concerns regarding challenges like traffic congestion and carbon emissions as well as its range of commuter benefits were also hailed.

“We take immense pride in being nationally recognized for the tenth year in a row as a Best Workplace for Commuters,” said Rodney Slaughter, director, Parking and Transportation, Yale New Haven Hospital. “The commuter benefit programs and incentives offered by YNHH reflect our commitment to our employees.”

YNHH offers employees several commuter benefit options and alternatives to single-occupancy vehicle use, including shuttle services, public transportation subsidies, car- and van-pooling and other alternatives. The program helps address parking challenges; demonstrates environmental excellence by reducing gasoline demand, greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution; and exhibits corporate citizenship.

YNHH offers employees several commuter benefit options and incentives to replace single occupancy vehicle use:

• A large FREE employee commuter bus program

• Free monthly CT Transit bus passes

• $100 monthly subsidy for commuter trains

• Car\Van pooling programs

• Innovative savings for part-time tele-work employees

• Bike and Walk to work programs

• All TDM participants receive two free parks each month.

• Guaranteed Ride Home Program

According to BWC, Yale New Haven Hospital is one of 200 organizations across the country that has addressed their employees’ concerns regarding challenges such as traffic congestion and reducing emissions and offers a range of commuter benefits that gives employees the support they need to get to and from work more efficiently. “Yale New Haven Hospital is one of the top employers in the nation offering high-level commuter benefits to their employees,” said Julie Bond, program manager, BWC. “Yale New Haven Hospital made the list because they offer several innovative alternate transportation choices that provide employees the support they need to get to and from work and be at their best before, during and after their workday.”
