YNHHS enhances employee referral program

Yale New Haven Health’s Employee Referral Program has been enhanced to help bring even more good people to the health system. The enhancements apply to all new referrals entered into the system starting Jan. 1. 

The enhancements, which run through Dec, 31, 2022, include a $2,500 bonus for every successful referral who is hired to a regular, full-time, or part-time position. Also, managers and supervisors are eligible for the program as long as their referral is not under their span of control.

Designed to reward staff for leveraging their personal networks to improve the YNHHS workforce, the Employee Referral Program has led to 604 hires and a 90 percent retention rate in the 25 months since it launched. 

Making a referral takes only a few clicks. From the YNHHS intranet:

  • Click “Careers”
  • Log in, search and select the job to refer
  • Click “Refer/Email to a friend”
  • Complete a short form requiring the referral’s name and email address
  • Click “Submit Referral”

You can also make a referral via the internet using your home computer or mobile device. Just make sure you use an updated browser, like Edge, Chrome, Firefox or Safari:

  • Go to and log in with your YNHHS username and password.
  • Select “ICIMS Internal Job Postings” from the menu.
  • Enter your YNHHS credentials again. From there, the referral process is the same as on the intranet.

After the employee submits the information, the candidate receives a dedicated link to apply. Once the candidate applies via the link, the employee and candidate are attached in the system. This feature makes it easy to track referrals and the employees who are making them.

There is no limit to the amount of bonuses paid out to referring employees. The more hired referrals you make, the more bonus money you earn (tax withholdings apply).
