Two more units join the 1,000 Day Club for preventing infections

EP 4-6 staff were recognized for surpassing 1,000 days without a CAUTI. The unit was previously honored for going 1,000 days without a CLABSI.

Yale New Haven Hospital marked Patient Safety Awareness Week 2023 by welcoming two inpatient units into the “1,000 Day Club” for their efforts to prevent infection.

EP 6-5 (Surgery) was recognized for surpassing 1,000 days without a central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI), while EP 4-6 (Medicine) marked the time without a catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI).

EP 4-6 joins an elite group of units across Yale New Haven Health that has been honored for achieving 1,000 Day Club recognition for both CAUTI and CLABSI. The unit was inducted into the club in 2022 for CLABSI.

Staff on both units will receive a branded jacket with a 1,000 Day Club patch and an insignia of the specific metric achieved. The 1,000 Day Club initiative was launched last year by Quality and Safety in conjunction with Nursing.

“To have gone 1,000 days without a hospital-acquired infection such as CLABSI and CAUTI is an outstanding accomplishment and represents the deliberate practice of attention to detail and extraordinary teamwork,” said Danielle Zawatsky, director of Safety and Quality, YNHHS. “We are so proud of the outcomes that these outstanding units have accomplished and thank our bedside leaders for the exceptional care they provide.”
