John Tucker, ED technical associate, was recognized for attention to detail, 200% accountability and practicing a questioning attitude. While performing routine tasks, Tucker noted minimal movement in an intubated patient’s chest. He quickly escalated his concerns, and a respiratory therapist reviewed the ventilator. Thanks to Tucker’s use of CHAMP behaviors, a life-threatening emergency was avoided.
Karina Velez Aleno, Digestive Health support assistant, Endoscopy, was recognized for attention to detail and quick thinking to prevent patient harm. While helping a patient into the passenger seat of a car, she noticed the driver had gotten out of the vehicle and it was beginning to move forward. The patient tried to stop the car but couldn’t reach the brake. Velez Aleno quickly engaged the parking brake, preventing the car from striking other vehicles or rolling into the guardrail.
