Employees invited to Let’s Talk discussion on race

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion invites employees to join in the first 2020 Let’s Talk event: “A dialogue on race in America and what is means for diversity and inclusion at YNHHS.”

The event will be a live webcast, 2 - 3 pm Monday, Feb. 10. Presidents and chief executive officers from across the health system will be the webcast panelists: Marna Borgstrom, CEO, YNHHS; Richard D’Aquila, president, YNHH; Anne Diamond, president, Bridgeport Hospital; Norm Roth, president and CEO, Greenwich Hospital; Patrick Green, president and CEO, Lawrence + Memorial and Westerly hospitals; and Prathibha Varkey, MBBS, president and CEO, Northeast Medical Group. Kevin Myatt, senior vice president and chief human resources officer, will moderate the discussion.

The program aims to help participants recognize the barriers, obstacles and choices minority populations in the workforce encounter while advancing their careers and pursuing professional development. YNHHS leaders will share their journeys – from establishing relationships and facing challenges, to implementing strategies and sharing examples of increasing inclusion and diversity. The panel will discuss ways to strengthen race relations and increase diversity as YNHHS and its delivery networks continue to work on mirroring the populations we serve.

Additional webcast objectives include:

  • Summarizing the progression and current gaps of race in our community
  • Illustrating the effects of cultural and societal biases on our colleagues
  • Describing the complexities of race encountered when making choices related to self, career and family
  • Discussing strategies for overcoming challenges of systematic racism

Register for the webcast on the Infor Learning Management System. For more information, contact Kwame Davenport, [email protected], or 203-502-6553.
