Hospital celebrates “next generation” of care at Shoreline Medical Center

Bulletin May 16 2019

Yale New Haven leaders and physicians were among those who celebrated the completion of an expansion and renovation project at Shoreline Medical Center April 23.

When Shoreline Medical Center opened in Guilford in 2004, it was considered the “hospital of the future.” The Yale New Haven Hospital center offered an emergency department, physician offices, cancer services, advanced diagnostic imaging, one-day surgery and more.

At an April 23 ribbon-cutting, YNHH celebrated major renovations to the medical center. Yale New Haven President Richard D’Aquila called the updated Shoreline Medical Center the “next generation” of care for residents of Guilford and surrounding communities.

A major feature of the expansion project is a new, six-room Ambulatory Surgery Center designed to support a state-of-the-art Ophthalmology Center, including laser-assisted cataract surgery, along with adult and pediatric otolaryngology and plastic and reconstructive surgery. The new Surgery Center accommodates an anticipated increase in cases from 5,000 this year to more than 8,000 by 2023.

Additional Shoreline Medical Center enhancements include:

  • A major Smilow Cancer Care Center expansion, including an enhanced reception area, redesigned infusion bays, new medical and surgical oncology clinic, updated radiation oncology and a new pharmacy
  • Expanded Radiology and Biomedical Imaging, including ultrasound, MRI, CT and breast imaging
  • An expanded and remodeled entrance and reception area that provides centralized registration for Shoreline’s programs

Shoreline Medical Center also includes a 24/7 Emergency Department, Heart and Vascular Center and blood draw and routine lab services.
